Album Info:Today I spent the day with some friends chasing the CCET Railroad east in Cincinnati to document the still standing Norfolk and Western Color Position Light Signals. Despite having bags over the heads, I have never shot N&W CPL style signals before, and grabbing some old standard cab GE and EMD Power by them was always a grabber for me. We got them working along with some other successful catches around the Cincinnati area. Enjoy!

CCET 2414
Title:  CCET 2414
Description:  Good morning from Ancor Ohio! Today TJ, AJ, and I decided to take a day to follow the Cincinnati Eastern Terminal Railway to document the still standing N&W CPL style signals that line the section of the Peavine that the CCET owns. When we arrived at the small yard in Ancor, the train was just departing toward Mariemont and the NS interchange. Pushing the train was the newly acquired CCET 2414, ex-NS 2414, exx-Southern 2414, built for the company shortly before the merger with N&W. CCET acquired this engine a couple months ago when NS began to auction off a majority of their older switchers. Also featured on the roster are two ex-CSX B36-7s, which we are hoping will be added to the train once at the Mariemont Yard.

Title:  CCET 2414
Description:  With the amount of traffic the train was not very easy to keep up with. We were able to get to the crossing on Church Street in Newtown to get a direct head on shot.

Title:  CCET 5895
Description:  After the shot on Church Street we were not able to get back out ahead of it again. The interchange yard with NS (Clare Yard) is very cut off so we werent able to see them in the yard. WE went into Mariemont to do some investigating. We could hear switching but couldnt see it. So we decided to go back to Newtown where we set up shop at Debolt Road where the first of several deactivated N&W CPLs stand. In its place closer to the street is a Conrail style trilight which is used as the distant signal for the yard. After lots of waiting TJ claimed he heard rumbling coming from around the corner, and sure enough moments later the gates came down and to our delightful suprise, a B23-7 had been tacked to the front! The chase was on!

Title:  CCET 5895
Description:  We decided to get plenty out ahead of the train instead of trying to get it in places in between then scrambling to get to the next pair of signals. South of Milford, OH, a pair of bagged signals stands right at the entrance of a Milford residents driveway. Just a couple minutes pass before the train storms by us eastbound.

Description:  Further south of Milford the train passes through another pair of signals. Round Bottom Road follows the tracks hard from Ancor to its end at US 50 east of Milford. From what Ive been told there is plans for a transload site to be located in this area somewhere.

Title:  CCET 5895
Description:  We made a dash for Batavia where the next signal pair was. This pair is one of two that is still uncovered, and this pair features a bracket signal. It is quite a climb to get to this spot, and we werent sure if wed make it in time. Come to find out we would wait more than 15 minutes for the train to show up, but boy it was well worth it!

Title:  CCET 5895
Description:  We took our time getting some shots of the signals at Batavia, and when we got on the road we met the train at its destination at the small yard in Afton, where they would work at Hutamaki and some yard work before heading back to Ancor. We would not make the chase back as I wanted to check some other things around the Cincinnati area.

Title:  CCET 5895
Description:  Another bracket signal sits at the west side of the yard in Afton. This one, however, is bagged, but at least it faces the direction we needed. A good chase along the CCET! Our next stop would be the IORY in Norwood.

IORY 2101
Title:  IORY 2101
Description:  After getting some lunch at Wendys in Afton we made our way back west to Norwood. Not a lot was going on in the IORY Yard, but I figured it would be worth a check anyway. IORY 2101 was parked on the far track with a string of cars, what I would assume is or would be the job to NS at Sharonville.

Title:  IORY 3494, IORY 3493, and IORY 5014
Description:  IORY 3493 was shuffling around the yard, but showed no signs of building a train or leaving with a train. IORY 3493 sits in the back on the right and IORY 5014 can be seen behind IORY 3493. With no ensuing plans of a train coming out, we decided to head to metro Cincinnati for some Class 1 action.

CSX 8467
Title:  CSX 8467
Description:  Since TJ had never gotten to experience railfanning near a large railyard, we decided to see what we could find on the Hopple St. overpass, which gives a good view of the north throat of CSXs Queensgate Yard. Several RC Jobs with SD40-2s were working, but most of the engines were facing the wrong direction like this one.

NS 3607
Title:  NS 3607
Description:  After some debating, we decided to conclude our day watching trains around Winton Place (mostly because I knew where I was going and knew how to get there). Some other local railfan friends joined us and we got to see a fair amount of traffic pass. First off was NS 178 heading north. A Skyline Chilli billboard stands tall beside I75 which is right off to the left. Hands down the best chilli in all of Cincinnati.

IORY 3491
Title:  IORY 3491
Description:  We figured that the train would sit where it was for a while, as Queensgate usually keeps the IORY out for long periods of time, but believe it or not as we were leaving the signal blipped green and we raced back to Winton Place where we shot it coming under the CPL Cantilever. Since it was getting dark AJ, TJ, and I decided it was time to call it quits and start heading back home. We dropped AJ off where he met us near Middletown and TJ and I began to follow the New Castle District back toward Muncie.

NS 9872
Title:  NS 9872
Description:  We were able to make it all the way just into Indiana to set up shop at Gravel Pit Road in Richmond for NS 25A. After NS 25A things got quiet so we decided to hit the highway and head straight for home. A great day trackside with great friends covering some new territory! The N&W brackets were a bucket list item for this year, along with the CSX B23-7s. Very happy with how everything turned out, especially the shot at Batavia! Until next time!
