Here is another example of a 4-8-2 Mountain type steam locomotive built by ALCo-Schenectady. It was delivered as illinois Central #2459 in November of 1926 (serial #67058). Somewhere in its life, the IC shops rebuilt it and improved the tractive force. It served from 1926 until it was scrapped in january of 1957. Rebuilt specs - 73.5" drivers, impressive 245 psi boiler pressure,28x28" cylinders, engine weight of 376,500 lb and 65,856 lb of tractive effort. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
