D&RGW F3 5544 at Denver Union Station, Denver, Colorado on August 26, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Completed on November 29, 1946 as D&RGW F3 554D (c/n 3549) on EMD Order E692, it was renumbered to 5544 during 1950, retired in December 1965, and traded to EMD as credit on an order of GP40's. This is likely power for the soon to arrive California Zephyr, replacing the CB&Q E-units, and taking the CZ to Salt Lake City, where these units will be replaced by Western Pacific F-units. |
