This unusual paint scheme may have been an attempt at a Bicentennial salute dubbed the "Cryola' paint scheme. Looks more like a patchwork quilt or paint sample test than a Bicentennial salute, IMHO. The loco was built by EMD in August of 1968. This photo came from the Conniff collection and is now part of my rr collection. |

KCS SD40 #600 is wearing the all white distinctive but impractical "Ghost" paint scheme with the red lettering popular during the 1970-80's on KCS diesels. It was built by EMD in October of 1966 as KCS SD40. The locomotive was later sold to Helm Leasing, rebuilt as an SD40M-3, and renumbered to HLCX 5007 and then 6057. This photo came from the Conniff collection and is now part of my rr collection. |
