LV 4-6-2 #2033 - Lehigh Valley
Title:  LV 4-6-2 #2033 - Lehigh Valley
Description:  Built as 2-6-2C camelback No. 794 by Baldwin in 1902, the entire group of ten 2-6-2's were renumbered in 1905. LV #794 became LV 2-6-2 #2234. The LV Sayre Shops then rebuilt these 2-6-2's in 1906 into 4-6-2's. This time the loco was renumbered LV 4-6-2C #2234. Finally, in August of 1920, the camelback 4-6-2 was rebuild into a K-3 class standard 4-6-2 and renumbered 2033. The loco was scrapped July of 1951. Charles Winters photo

DLW 4-6-4 #1151 - Delaware, Lackawanna & Western
Title:  DLW 4-6-4 #1151 - Delaware, Lackawanna & Western
Description:  Here is a powerful and fast 4-6-4 Hudson built by Alco-Schenectady in 1937 for the DLW. One online source states "...fast, powerful engines designed to pull 16-18 cars at 80 mph -- but the speed limit on the route was 70 mph and the trains were rarely ever more than 8 to 10 cars." Interesting oddity - does anyone know why there are blocks of rock on the pilot? Did this loco go so fast it had to be held down in front - just kidding. Specs - serial #68910, class M-1, 80" drivers, 245 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 377,000 lb, tractive effort of 52,791 lb. All five in the M-1 class were removed from service and scrapped between 1951-53. J.R. Quinn photo

CO 2-8-4 #2701 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Title:  CO 2-8-4 #2701 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Description:  The 2-8-4 Kanawah type steam locomotive was built by Alco-Schenectady in 11/1943 In 1954 after only 11 years of service, the C&O donated 2701 to the city of Buffalo, NY. It was placed on display on a short stretch of track near the waterfront. 2701 had been on display for only one week and all of the glass was broken and everything that could be removed (short of using a torch) was removed. Souvenir-hunting vandals wrecked her so bad that 2701 had to be scrapped after being on display for only a few months! A note on the back states echoes the same fate - " "Chesapeake & Ohio 12-8-4 2701 K-4 on permanent display in Las Salle Park, Buffalo, NY now scrapped." Specs - serail #70850,26x34 (cylinders), 69" (drivers), 245 (psi boiler pressure), engien wt of 460,000 lb and 69,350 (lb tractive effort), ." An unknown photographer photographer took the photo after being placed on display.

C&O 2-8-4 #2701 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Title:  C&O 2-8-4 #2701 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Description:  From the looks of the photo with the children all over the locomotive, it appears as if this engine was recently put on display. Fits well with its history as described on SteamLocomotive website. "The C&O donated 2701 to the city of Buffalo, NY. It was placed on display near the waterfront where vandals wrecked it so bad that it had to be scrapped after being on display for only a few months." It was a K-4 class loco built by Alco in 1943. Shame it wasn't given the respect it earned serving the C&O. This is an Forrest R. Trittenbach photo.

NYC Frontier Yard
Title:  NYC Frontier Yard
Description:  This slide didn't have any information on it, so the date is just a guess. This is a shot of NYC's Frontier yard taken from the Black Rock branch bridge over Broadway. There looks to be 2 alco's in the background working the yard. An S type behind the first Armour yellow box car and an RS type behind the first car on the passenger train. The locomotive #'s in the picture are not legible. They look like 4087 & 4024 but since thats uncertain,i didn't enter them. Still an interesting photo regardless.
