Illinois Central 2-10-2 #2819
Title:  Illinois Central 2-10-2 #2819
Description:  Originally built by Lima in 1923, it was rebuilt and renumbered by IC. The 2-10-2 wheel arrangement was usually labeled as "Santa Fe" but with the 125 ordered from Lima they were known as "Centrals" instead. Used for freight hauling, this class was torn apart & rebuilt by the IC Paducah shops into different wheel arrangements like 2-8-2, 2-10-0, 4-8-2 and even 0-10-0. The class was scrapped between 1958-62.

Description:  Sadly, it appears that Illinois Central 2-8-0 ten wheeler #719 is sitting in a scrap line at the IC Paducah Yards. An original Don Morice negative now in my collection was used to make the photo. History - Rogers, 1902 Specs - 56.5" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 20x28" cylinders, engine weight of 183,000 lb, tractive effort of 33,699 lb. The class went through a rebuild by the IC Paducah shops in 1920.

Description:  George Horna slide. Perhaps the most unusual and unexpected locomotive purchase were the six Alco C636s in 1968. The big Century's suffered mechanical problems soon after delivery. They were assigned to the Kentucky Division and stayed close to the Paducah shops. Most of the units were stored by 1977 and finally retired in 1979.
