Little did we know it when we were in town, but following the Aurora Sub ended up being a very costly mistake, as CPs Weed Control train was headed east on the Chicago Subdivision with a KCS Geep solo. Unfortunately, by the time we knew about it, it was too late and there was no point in going back. With no more trains for miles on the Aurora Subdivision, we decided to head south to the UP at Sterling. When we got to Sterling there was nothing but silence, so we stopped at Hardees for lunch. After lunch, we made our way east to Nelson. Green signals on both mains greeted us, but so did a parked ballast train on the Peoria side with mostly C&NW hoppers. Neat. |
