During the winter months propane season keeps the Maine railroads busy, and in the Portland are this is a really good thing as the once hugely rail served city is down to just a handful of customers and the carload customers in the Deering area are down to about once a week service. L077; the Monday through Friday Portland/Westbrook/Brunswick etc. daytime local returns to Rigby Yard with a buffer and three empty propane tank cars from Dead River in Westbrook. Lately the norm for this local has been a Westbrook run Monday-Wednesday-Friday, a Brunswick run on Tuesday and a Deering run on Thursday. The crew will do a quick runaround upon reaching the yard, put the cars on a siding and then call it a day. |
