SP 9119 was wrecked on the SBC in June 1980 and sold to them in Decmeber 1981. While technically no longer a SP unit, it's undergoing repairs at the SBC main shops while still painted and lettered Espee. What happened after April 1982 is unknown since no clear photo of this unit has been found. And starting in the early 2000s SD45 rebuilts (SD40Ms) began to show up in Mexico so photos of SD45 carbody units may not be this unit. The question remains...was this the only true SD45 to be owned and operated by a Mexican railroad? |
