Well, not a TOTAL surprise since I knew this train was coming at this point, but I didn't when I left the house to get 6644 leading 651. I saw the Facebook heads ups about this one coming west after I arrived at Columbus, to my delight. Empty rock train 9WWA is going to Portage to lay over for the night, tomorrow morning it will head to the Michels Pit at Waterloo for loading. About ten years ago, CP began a rebuild program on their remaining ex-Soo Line SD60s. They were sent to CAD Rail in Montreal, rebuilt, repainted in the plain red with white text scheme, and renumbered with a "2" replacing the "0" in the second digit of the SOO number (6232 was 6032, etc). Then, beginning in 2017, ten were sent to NRE Silvis for rebuilding to "SD60-3." These were numbered 6300-6309. A few of them were among the handful that escaped the initial round of rebuilds and thus still wore their SOO paint and numbers until that time. Others were rebuilt twice in less than a decade, including 6308. The former SOO 6050 did a brief stint as CP 6250. Most (but not all) of the SD60-3s received the "Golden Beaver" scheme after it was re-introduced late in 2017. |
