Wye Switches. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, during late November of 1965. Shown here are two unidentified GM-EMD "F" units pulling a string of new H-43B 100-ton hopper cars. They are passing WYE Tower on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Muleshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. This is the actual New Portage Junction: the original PRR main line from Altoona (on the left) merges here with the original right-of-way of the Allegheny Portage Railroad. |
