Asheville, NC, Feb 23, 2016, 12:48pm: Three jobs are lined up ready to roll on adjacent tracks on the hump at Norfolk Southern Railway’s Asheville yard on another cold, dark, and rainy winter day. On the right is EMD SD60I NS 6759 at the front of train 745, an empty coal train headed to Bull’s Gap, Tennessee, then on to the Appalachian coal mines. In the middle is EMD SD40-2 WAMX 4204 (under a SD-45 body) at the front of Blue Ridge Southern Railroad’s train T31 as it gets ready to roll on the return trip of its daily Canton-Asheville-Canton run. On the left is yard job and local PA01 mother-slug set consisting of EMD SD40-2 NS 3094 and cab slug RP-E4C NS 722. |
