Coal on the old LV  Contributor's Pick!
One of the few remaining segments of the Lehigh Valley in New York was the line from Sayre PA to Ludlowville, north of Ithaca. It was a good moneymaker for Conrail, as it hosted three coal trains weekly going to the NYSEG plant there, as well as salt loads out from Cargill. Occasionally Cornell would get coal for its boilers. This train has just changed ends at Sayre and is sitting by the former station, now a restaurant, as it gets ready to go north.
