AMTK 31  Contributor's Pick!
AMTK still sits on a storage track after derailing on October 21. Cause of derail unknown to investigators. News reporters never said or asked the question why the train was switched off of the mainline on to tracks that are almost 100 years old and used for storage. The fact if it hadn't derailed it would of hit the ballest hoppers in front was never brought up either.

Gary L General Chicago Tribune mentioned the "Incremental Train Control" was supposed to detect and stop the train before this could happen. Oops... 10/24/2012 8:17:24 AM
Joel Christensen General Now I am a big rail fan, but, I am not an expert. I am not sure why the conductor or the engineer failed to see that they went through 4 switches before derailing. The only thing I can think off is that the crew was operating from the rear engine. 10/24/2012 11:15:58 AM
