Faux QOKC Caboose, Smithville MO  Contributor's Pick!
The Quincy Omaha & Kansas City RR ran 250 miles from Quincy to KC as a semi-independent affiliate of the CB&Q. The line's west half was largely pulled up in 1939; the small Clay County town of Smithville was at milepost 225 and the town has erected this display in Heritage Park along Main St. to honor their only railroad. The display effort is fancier than most as it includes landscaping and white picket fences. The caboose is actually the former MP 13533, which was built by International Car 32 years after the "OK Route" was abandoned.

River Gabbert General I used to live here in Smithville. It's interesting they would bother to make a replica OK Quincy caboose since I don't think any other town on the line did anything in tribute to the OK Quincy. 10/17/2022 3:12:18 PM
