Blowin in the wind  Contributor's Pick!
One of the main features of the high plains is the wind, which was strong, and you feel it constantly, especially in an RV. Its blowing the 4014s smoke as the train passes the signal and a lone cottonwood at McAllaster. Note the lineside pole at far left, with four stripes. UP marks its poles, where they still exist, with up to four stripes, each marking a quarter mile. This one is at a milepost, having four.
