Auto-Train 4010 on eastbound L&N freight
In 1973 the L&N rented a handful of U36Bs from Auto-Train, GP40s from CN, and other locomotives from whomever had excess power. The power shortage was caused by the boom in eastern Kentucky coal traffic. As a result, diesels from A-T, CN, PC, SP and other RRs were seen in places those RRs were seldom, if ever, seen before.
