Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad E7 102 southbound on The Limited at Joliet, Illinois on July 11, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built as Alton 102 in March 1945 (c/n 2003) on EMD Order E544A, it was one of four E7's built for the Alton on that shop order (No.'s 102, 102A, 103, 103A). This unit was wrecked at Ocuya, Illinois in August 1971 and scrapped at Jackson, Mississippi. It is seen here at the head of Train No. 1, The Limited, due in Joliet at 11:55 AM CDT, and this being Daylight Saving Time, it's almost 1:00 PM. According to the June 1965 Official Guide, 'All through Gulf Mobile & Ohio trains are air-conditioned and diesel-electric powered. All parlor lounge cars Trains 1-2-3 and 4 are owned and operated by the GM&O RR.' |
