Title:  KCS E6A 24
Description:  When this shot was taken at Shreveport in 1964, KCS 24 was near the end of its career. In 1962 and 1963, the railroad had purchased five used E7's from the Maine Central, allowing it to retire its three remaining pre-war E-units: E3A 21 and 22 and E6A 24. The 24 was scrapped just a few months after this photo was taken. (approximate date of photo)

Balitmore & Ohio's "Capitol Limited"
Title:  Balitmore & Ohio's "Capitol Limited"
Description:  Train #6, The "Capitol Limited" is on its way through Belle Mead, New Jersey, on the New York Division of the Reading. It is lead by E6 (A) #52 delivered in June of 1941, and EB #52a (paired sets shared numbers) delivered in June of 1937. The train ran Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, Philadelphia, Jersey City. This train included an RPO-baggage car, 3 coaches, a diner, 3 sleepers and a parlor car. The first coach came from train 25 "The Columbian" and was a lightweight streamliner. He'd have been "tearin' 'em up." The employees' timetable of 1948 lists The Cap as running 11.5 miles from "GH" Tower near Pennington to Belle Mead in 9 minutes, an average of 76.7mph, then from Belle Mead.

BO E6A #61 - Baltimore & Ohio
Title:  BO E6A #61 - Baltimore & Ohio
Description:  Nice original action shot by an unknown railfan of the 1940 EMD built E6A unit #61 for the Baltimore & Ohio. According to the partial comments on the back, this loco was heading up the westbound "Royal Blue" train #27. It appears that the photographer mentions it passing the PA tower at Meade Juncition, Maryland but I can't seem to find that locaiton. Can anyone that is familiar with the area help me locate this spot?

SCL E6 501
Title:  SCL E6 501
Description:  SCL E6 501 at Denver Union Station, Denver, Colorado, July 13, 1975 at 5:00PM, photo by J. H. Nixon, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 501 was built as an E3A for the ACL in November 1939 (c/n 959) on EMC Order E335, was wrecked before delivery to ACL, returned to EMC and rebuilt as an E6A. It was retired in 1972 and later owned by Glen Monhart, restored to ACL appearance, and kept in Wisconsin. After Mr. Monhart was tragically killed in an auto accident the estate sold it and it now resides at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. It's actually owned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and it is on "long term loan" to the museum, which is offically part of the Department of Cultural Resources.

ACL 501 DIT on it's way to Jacksonville Fla.
Title:  ACL 501 DIT on it's way to Jacksonville Fla.
Description:  We knew the 501 had recently arrived Waycross, and drove there in hopes of seeing it. When we heard Rice Yard on the radio giving direction to put "that old Coast Line unit" on Q455, we got pumped! Just seeing the unit was our goal, but catching it on a train was a bonus. The 501 was being moved to Jacksonville Fla where it would later be towed along with a couple CSX passenger cars with some VIP's aboard to Raleigh NC. The 501 arrived in Raleigh NC just two days later, on May 25, for its new owner, the NC Dept. of Transportation. The engine was purchased from the Glenn Monhart estate in Wisconsin for $200,000. This locomotive is currently on display at the North Caroline Department of Transportation in Spencer NC. You should check it out!
