Title:  DMIR 2-8-8-4 #232 - Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range
Description:  Built by Baldwin in January of 1943 as DMIR #232, this was the second batch of massive 2-8-8-4's that DMIR ordered from Baldwin as they were very pleased with the 1941 batch. The loco lasted nearly 19 years of active iron ore drags to Duluth and Twin Harbors before being retired and scrapped in 1962. Specs - M4 class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. Description:  Built by Baldwin in January of 1943 (serial #234), this massive and powerful locomotive was a decided advantage when moving long strings of loaded iron ore cars to Duluth and Twin Harbor ports. The 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type steam locomotive lasted nearly 19 years in heavy service until retirement and scrapping in 1962. Specs - M4 class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. Description:  Beautiful long shot of Duluth Missabe & Iron Range 2-8-8-4 #235, a Yellowstone type wheel configuration. The loco was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1943 (serial #64714, M4 class) and hauled the long drags of ore cars for nearly 19 years before being scrapped in 1962. Specs - 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. This articulated Yellowstone type steam locomotive was built by Baldwin in 1941 to meet the needs of power for long ore car drags. Specs - Class M3, 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32 cylinders, engine wt 695,040 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. All of the DM&IR Yellowstones were all retired between 1958 and 1963. No photographer was listed for this photo.
