CB&Q E9 9988B |
Description: |
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad GP7 242 and E9 9988B eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on March 30, 1964, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The GP7 is leading the East End Way Freight east, having finished switching the industries on both sides of the tracks in Naperville. Since the way freight occupies Track 3, the Dinky is on Track 2, and the commuters were briefly the main ingredient in a train sandwich at the station seen in the background. The Dinky is overtaking the way freight but will stop at Lisle, four miles further east, allowing the way freight to catch up. This will continue until Downers Grove, a likely stopping point for the way freight to perform a few more switching duties usually at Pepperidge Farm. |
