Title:
NH EP-5 #370 - New York, New Haven & Hartford RR
Description:
This 1954 GE built double-ended arc rectifier electric locomotive was one of the first to convert AC from catenary supply or 3rd rail to DC for its 6 GE model 752 traction motors. The unit had a C-C wheel arrangement and could apply a sustained 34,000 lb of tractive effort and labeled as 4,000 hp. Nicknamed "Jets" due to the roaring sound made by their main cooling blowers. This unit of ten EP-5 moved into PC ownership kept its number (PC #370) and reclassified as an E-40 class. After some unfortunate problems with breakdowns, all in the class were scrapped by 1979.
