A small metal plaque on this caboose reads: "Drover's Caboose, 1904. This caboose was built by the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad with accomodations for both a regular freight train crew and drovers, who handled cattle on their way to market. In its later career it became car number 153 of the Monongahela Railway, and was used as a dining car on a wreck train. It came to Station Square in 1977." |

Description: |
Seen on a short train out of the Demmler (McKeesport) yard heading across the Youghiogheny River Bridge. After it crossed the bridge, it switched onto the CSX Mon Line and who knows where it went from there. The train was carrying a large backhoe and excavator. Though I'm glad to see a caboose still being actively used it is a shame about all the rust and the graffiti. |

CSX 4836 |
Description: |
An SD70ACE leads a freight manifest train across the Youghiogheny River Bridge into McKeesport, Pa on a perfect November morning. This is the Pittsburgh Extension of the CSX line. The train bridge was built in 1968 originally for the P&LE Railroad. Along with another bridge up the Yough at Liberty Borough, they were able to divert the train traffic away from downtown McKeesport which had wreaked havoc with the roads. |

USS McKeesport Tubular Operations |
Description: |
In August 2014 this plant wille be idled, putting 177 employees out of work indefinitely. This location has a long history. National Tube Works started here in 1872. After a strike/lockout in 1987 it was taken over by a company called Camp Hill. USS resumed operations at the plant in 2011, anticipating increased business from the natural gas and oil industries. But now, dumping of cheaper steel imports are said to be the blame for the plants closing. This complex is served by CSX and has a dedicated URR switcher that stays at the location . |
