I don't believe this unit was repainted, but may have had some work done following its breakdown prior to last November's Polar Express runs. |

Approaching Van Allen Road. Welded rail was installed along this stretch this spring, but surfacing work is still not finished and thus speed is still 10 MPH. Had been 25 on the jointed rail that was replaced! |

WSOR 4007 flies through with a local bound for Bardwell |
Description: |
This train was going by the symbol Y302 on the radio, which is a Janesville yard job. This move would be more typical of L351, the usual Elkhorn branch job. |

WSOR 4007 is, incredibly, now part of an endangered species |
Description: |
I must have caught this locomotive leading six times in as many months when I first started railfanning the WSOR back in 2007. I was getting frustrated because I wanted to expand my roster! Now the WSOR SD40-2s are being relettered and numbered into the WAMX roster by parent company Watco. They will, thankfully, retain their red and gray paint and goose logo. |

Bit of a downer that Iowa Pacific couldn't have at least washed off the two ex-NJT coaches before deadheading this consist to Middleton. At least the 101 looks good and had a cool sounding M5 horn. |

Clean car, dirty mind |
Description: |
The reporting marks are a slight eyebrow-raiser. Badger State Ethanol was built in Monroe at the start of the 2000s ethanol boom (when ethanol was supposed to be the savior that would end our dependence on fossil fuels), and long strings of these cars for the inbound corn and tank cars for the outbound product were all over the WSOR system. It didn't quite work out that way, and it's been quite a few years since I last saw one of these cars. However, Badger State was perhaps single-handedly responsible for ensuring continued rail service to Monroe, as the high volume of traffic it generated in the early years spurred improvements to the previously moribund line. |

T004 power runs light to collect two from DeLong |
Description: |
Coming back from Rockford, I pulled off in Janesville to see what I could find. I was picking up a FRED beep on the scanner and checked out the UP yard first. No sign of any action there, so I headed north on Read Road and found this train already going over the crossing. I turned around and took Avalon Road to this location, expecting them to come flying through en route to Bardwell and points east. Instead they came to a stop and cut off the power to make a pickup here, which I have never known the road train to do. DeLong acquired this grain facility at Avalon from Gavilon in 2016. Their switcher, ex-BN SD40-2 7161, can be seen just to the right of the WSOR power. |

After they backed these down onto the rest of the train, I had hoped they might highball for points east, but instead they turned the lights off. |
