EL 809, 817 & 812 - Erie Lackawanna |
Description: |
Much like a circus elephant parade in a head to tail arrangement, these E8A units are stacked up at Pullman Junction in Chicago, IL. These "sisters" were all built in 1951 by EMD for the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Rwy and carried their original numbers into the Erie-DLW merger. Unknown photographer. |

Title: |
EL E8A #814 - "Death March" |
Description: |
Still a good looking unit but from the handwritten note painted near the rear, it's on its final journey to the torches. The note states "Electromotive Divi, Gen Motors, c/o Pielet Bros, McCook, IL, 25 mph." Pielet Bros. of McCook, IL was right next to EMD and they scrapped many trade-ins to EMD. In 1977, they were in charge of scrapping a lot of the EL E-units. George Cheatwood slide |
