BO 4-6-4 #5360 - Baltimore & Ohio |
Description: |
Here is a rare B&O steam locomotive - 1 of only 4 homeshops built Hudson that the B&O had. This was the last of four that was built and a very streamlined, plain looking loco. Each of the previous Hudsons were experimental and unique. Since B&O did not order any, their experiments must not have proven successful. According to www.steamlocomotive.com, was used in passenger service west of Cumberland, MD and lasted until 1950. Specs - V-4 class, 80" drivers, 22.5 x 29 cylinders, weighed 369,000 lbs with a tractive effort of 52,000 lbs. Unknown photographer. |

BO 4-6-2 #5261 - Baltimore & Ohio |
Description: |
This 4-6-2 Pacific stands in the Lincoln Park yard in Rochester, NY, on a cold winter day although the photo lists Lincoln Park, IL as the location. With Jim Ford's help (see comment below), I have it correctly labeled now. Originally built by Alco-Brooks in 1923 for the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh line as their #676, it's number was changed when it was eventually absorbed into the B&O roster in 1932 as a P-19 class member. No date or photographer listed so an approximate date was used. |

Prior to Alco merger, the Pittsburgh Locomotive & Car Works built this cute 0-4-0 switcher in June 1893 (c/n 1444) originally for the Valley Railway of Ohio as #16, which went to the Cleveland Terminal & Valley as #16. In 1902 the Baltimore & Ohio acquired it, renumbered #37, class C11, and was caught by R.D. Patton as it sat in the Wilmington, DE, yard. Number 37 was scrapped in August 1945. |
